SSVP is an international fraternal non-profit organization of catholic lay people, men and women, who practice Christianity by helping those in dire need in a spirit of charity and justice. Our mission is to follow Christ through service to those in need and so bear witness to his compassionate and liberating love through person-to-person contact. St Vincent de Paul, our patron, was renowned for his compassion, humility, and generosity and is known as the “Great Apostle of Charity”.
SSVP Origin
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul was founded in 1833 to help impoverished people living in the slums of Paris, France. The primary figure behind the society’s founding was Blessed Frédéric Ozanam, a French lawyer, author, and professor in the Sorbonne. The Society numbers about 800,000 members in some 140 countries worldwide, whose members operate through “conferences”.
Our Global Vision
As a Catholic lay organization, we will embrace the world in a network of charity, serving Christ in the suffering, poor or marginalized, bringing them love and respect, aid and development, hope and joy, in a more just society. We also seek to deepen our spirituality and the mutual love and support amongst members, so that, seeing how we serve those in need with one mind and heart, people are attracted to the Society and to Christ who animates it.

About SSVP St Antony’s Conference, Sithalapakkam
At St. Anthony’s Church, Sithalapakkam, we are a group of 17 active members and 12 ancillary members of SSVP Sithalapakkam Conference. This conference is part of SSVP Medavakkam Area Council which in turn is part of SSVP Chennai Central Council.
