Penzance is outstandingly rich, complex, and satisfying. I smoke this blend more than once a week almost always in a meerschaum and it is sometimes for me difficult to pack perfectly(which way is that?) Is it the best English ever ? It may not be everyones cup of gin, but it is definitely quality stuff. I?m also very happy that this is not exactly like Germains as I am in awe of both blends for similar reasons, but as these tines go to the forefront of my tobaccos I can expect a different sublime experience from each. One of the most complex blends I have smoked to date. Coins, plug, flake, curly, makes no difference, fold and stuff and smoke for eternity. Penzance is a wonderful tobacco for the hands (all that fun crumbling up the flakes) but less so for the tongue. Care must be taken not to rub this tobacco out too finely, and to load the pipe with a light touch. Cellaring is done in a vacuum sealed tin where there is a lot less air available. I looked through some old notes and discovered that the only time I ever noticed that horrible taste was on a very hot and humid day in Queensland Australia. This slight drying seems to help keep the tobacco from clumping in the bowl and I find I relight less often. There are what looks like small white mold spots on each slice. Penzance is cool smoking, creamy, salty, pungent, sweet, and smoky. I would rather refer to them as fermented tobaccos, or tobaccos that underwent a special aging or decaying process. It looked like a big dark, with bright specs here and there, brick in the tin to me, not flakes.
